Experts agree that the American education system is not producing sufficient graduates in the STEM fields. A somewhat less recognized but equally disturbing problem is the drop in the creativity scores of American students (see The Creativity Crisis). The combination of these factors represents a significant obstacle for US competitiveness in the 21st century global economy.
Create It Lab was formed in order to develop projects that blend the arts into the STEM fields, with the goals of improving the trends in the number of STEM graduates and providing focused opportunities for creative development.
We design innovative curriculums for K-12 students that combine science, technology, and the arts. Each project is developed specifically to engage students at their developmental level, all at minimal cost.
When students apply knowledge and create their own projects, they can achieve greatness. We believe every student has this potential within, and that innovative approaches in design-based learning will help every student realize this potential.
We use the Motivate-Make-Measure-Model design methodology, which provides a framework for creativity and empowers students by teaching fabrication skills. This philosophy was originally conceived by Professor Ronald Goldner at Tufts University.
We encourage students to learn by designing, building, and observing. We highly encourage the use of power tools, measurement devices, hand tools, design techniques, brainstorming and embracing mistakes as learning vehicles.
We love meeting and learning with new people. If you have questions or you'd like to contact us about getting involved, feel free to email us at Info.CreateItLab@gmail.com.
